In the early-mid 1930s Harley-Davidson established a factory in Japan, including blueprints and tooling, in partnership with a Japanese company. This was in response to Harley's failing fortunes during The Depression plus the appearance of a lucrative market already established in SE Asia by certain importers of Harley products there.
