"The history of the museum

"In the sixties of the 20th century, the first groups of collectors and protectors of transport technical sites began to form in Slovakia. In 1972 he established MUDr. Michal Ondrejcák together with his friends the first Slovak club of collectors of historical cars and motorcycles, today Veteran club Bratislava. At the same time, in 1973, the Ring of Friends of Railroad was founded.

In 1979, this group, under the guidance of Doc. Ing. Ladislav Krizan, CSC., Managed to get the first historic steam break. Since 1981 it has been continuously part of the Slovak collection of historical railway vehicles. This collection is managed and a comprehensive documentation of the history of Slovak railways has been provided since 1983 by the Museum-Documentation Center, operating today within the Zeleznice SR. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the railways in Slovakia, ZSR and Veterán klub Bratislava concluded a joint agreement on the establishment of the Museum of Transport.

Spaces and railway exhibits were provided by the Slovak Railways, road exhibits were provided by the Veterán klub Bratislava, and the Slovak Technical Museum of Košice provided the exhibition with its new organizational unit. The joint effort was sponsored by PPA-Control, as, crowned with success, and on June 24, 1999, the first Slovak transport museum was ceremonially accessible to the public."
